A Bethel speaker at the convention this past weekend said that 1500 had been sent home because the new prinitng technology didn't require as many people working. Good one! Wonder who wrote it ....

FROM the source about downsizing
by Pistoff ini toured wallkill in the last month; the tour guide stated, in very clear terms, that the wt leadership is "sending home" many older couples and older ones, and replacing them with younger ones as they need to.
he did say it was because their experience was of more use in the field.
(snicker.

2.00PM Notice The People Returning To Their Seats Late? Woe To Them, For They Did Not Take Heed Of The 2PM Return Time.
2.30PM More Gossip About People Sat Near You.
Part One: Just How Many Cups Of Coffee Did That Man Consume?
Part Two: Take Your Eyes Off That Short Skirt And Listen.
Part Three: Discipline The Child Drawing In His/Her Notepad.
PRICELESS! I especially like the child and the notepad comment. Boy, is that dead-on or what LOL!
I'm so glad I don't have to go to conventions anymore. What a blessing to be free from JW's and that dooms-day lifestyle.

Looks like a lighthearted paraody of herself as a sultry nighclub singer - I hope she had fun doing it! It's good to see grown-ups enjoying themselves and acting like kids sometimes (I used to sing into my hairbrush and put on concerts for my toys - what fun!) .
As for taking her seriously it would depend on the context .

Did You Believe "The End" Was Going To Come In Your Lifetime?
by minimus inwhen the society came out in 1966 with the info that 6000 years of man's existence would come to an end by 1975, i thought it was a crock.
for 9 long years, all jws did was speculate about "when" the great tribulation was going to begin.
i always thought of jesus' words about "nobody knowing the day or the hour"----yet jehovah's witnesses figured it out?

I did for a while. After the UN declared 1986 the "International Year of Peace and Security" and the great tribulation didn't follow immediately I began to have my doubts. Then when they began changing -ahem- adjusting other teachings I started wondering if it was all bulls**t. That plus the fact that genuine love was in extremely short supply. We were all just a bunch of automatons not forming real loving relationships with one-another because we were afraid to find out how spiritually inept we were in comparison to brother-and-sister-oh-so-spirtual .
Now I don't believe in "the end of the world" at all anymore. I still do believe in God.

Great post! Welcome to the REAL WORLD! Not as scary as we were led to believe is it? No, what's REALLY SCARY is knowing that you fell for that MASSIVE SNOW JOB for so long. I'm just recently getting over being ticked off about it myself and I left over 7 years ago.
You just gave me some great questions for the dubs the next time I encounter them. You're absolutely correct about them not showing genuine love to their neighbors, along with the lazy-cheap-a** evangelical campaign ... what a crock of bull that is! They just don't want to expose the world to that garbage because they know they'll be taken down ASAP. Much like many other cults, they like to teach in secret.
Best wishes to you !

The death of the Watchtower pre-study
by slimboyfat inwho is old enough to remember when witnesses used eagerly to meet on a friday or saturday night to "pre-study" the watchtower in groups: reading paragraphs, underlining, reading scriptures (sometimes)?.
what happened to that, does anyone still do it anywhere?
i think witnesses are just not as enthusiastic about the "truth" as they used to be.

I recall a few pre-study meetings we attended in our area. It was so much more fun and open than that drool that goes on at the kingdumb hell ... they wanted to kill the competition .

Were You Always Feeling Guilty & Unhappy During Your Witness Years?
by minimus inwere you ever really joyful as a witness?
-
sweet tee
I was happy until after I was dunked and all the secret requirements came out. The expectations were suddenly so high I was terrified I might do something wrong and anger the great and fear inspiring Jehovah. Once in a while one might feel that everything is alright ... until the next meeting where one would learn how inept they truly were in one area or another ... I couldnt' even enjoy abstract thoughts or daydreams lest it displease the mighty Jehovah. And for some reason, I kept wondering if I had committed the unforgivable sin. I think I heard that you can do that and not know it ... that's tantamount to spirtual terroism!!! That's the same reason I don't go to Church today - Fear God and Give Him Glory (and 10% of your gross income, or else!) I gave the gb my heart sould and mind for the better part of 12 years. I wasn't always feeling unhappy, but the guilt I wore around my neck like a choker. And I was the one of the more strict JW's!

Excellent thread! Most definately true ... things have changed in the borg and they will never be the same now that the internet is around.
Great points too axelspeed ... I agree, the generation change was a really big blow to the R&F; almost equivialent to the fallout of '75.
I couldn't help but compare the fall of the WT to the fall of Bablylon the Great described in the Revelation Climax Book (Version 1, that is )

In additition to all the spirtual-psycho-babble-bs, she envies you. If you dissassociate yourselves she won't even have to think about your wonderful family and that precious little baby you have now. Think about it ... does she have even 1 true friend? Can you imagine how lonely she must be? Just ignore her in order to spare her feelings. And protect your own feelings by not reading any more of her letters. I'd probably just throw them out - sending them back is another way of feeding her pain and anger. If you believe in prayer then pray for her. Other than that, this is HER issue, let her keep and take care of it if that's what she wants. You have a baby to care for and enjoy. (((((((((((((((( CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! ))))))))))))))
